In the latest round of budget cuts, the New York City Health Department is slashing the number of pest control aides by nearly 70 percent.
The number of full-time workers who clean up trash on properties where rodents have been reported will drop from 84 to 27.
“It’s going to affect quality of life directly, giving more harbor to rodents, lowering property values,” Fritz Reid, head of the union that represents the workers, told amNewYork. “These people are cleaning up our neighborhoods.”
The city predicts the cuts will save $1.5 million next fiscal year, which begins July 1.

To control the population of rodents and mice, us people in the community should also do our part in building a healthier community. We can make ourselves pest exterminators (Virginia Beach). But we should see to it that the substance that we use are eco-friendly and has low toxicity. Being a responsible pest exterminator (Virginia Beach), we should follow proper guidelines to have a healthy community.
